Net Worth Update 2007

"Your net worth to the world is usually determined by what remains after your bad habits are subtracted from your good ones."
- Benjamin Franklin

I've calculated our net worth at the end of 2007 and appended it to the previous ten years of data I posted last year. I was perhaps hoping for a bit more progress last year, but I'm nonetheless satisfied with the results.

You may also wonder why I only update our net worth statistics once a year, as I've noticed a number of personal finance blog authors provide monthly or even weekly updates. In our case, we have a portfolio consisting primarily of equities, and the total portfolio dollar amount size has grown to dwarf even our yearly savings. Thus, I'm afraid that a monthly net worth update would merely be a reflection of monthly market fluctuations, which I don't think is a useful thing to calculate and post.

Great blog...My wife is 40 and I am 43. Our net worth less home equity is $446,160. Gosh we feel so far away from our goal of retiring within 10 years. Only a minor miracle would have us retire by my wife's 45th birthday. But we still have strong hopes of getting there before she turns 50!

The only thing that keeps me going is that five years ago, the networth figure was actually negative! It was a scary place... At least now we are debt free. Credit scores should be close to 800 by year's end. And standing plastic credit is well over $300K.

We try to be as aggressive as can be, but the road ahead is long...Kudos to you for the solid approach you have taken.

Your story is impressive, and shows the power of investing in equities.

My net worth is far below where it should be, since for various reasons it primarly consists of bank held funds.

It could easily have been 5 times what it is today had I not been so conservative.
